UN Enlists Robots in Pursuit of Sustainable Development Goals by 2030

The UN technology agency has recruited robots to help meet its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Care-giving robots, such as ‘Nadine’ which simulates emotions and remembers people, are among those showcased.

The robots’ capabilities will be promoted at the ‘AI for Good’ event in Switzerland. The two-day conference is expected to attract up to 5,000 attendees.

AI technology is already being utilised by UN agencies for various purposes. The World Food Programme uses AI to identify areas at risk of hunger, while the World Health Organization is developing a system to confirm the accuracy of AI disease diagnoses.

Robots’ accessibility could potentially increase in the coming years due to advancements in material science, battery life, network connectivity, AI, and machine learning.
