Tesla has secured nearly €149 million in EU funding. The funds will be used to expand and update Tesla’s Supercharger network in Europe. The EU will invest in over 7,000 Supercharger upgrades to the new V4.
The funding is part of the ambitious EU Green Deal. The European Union plans to allocate €352 million to 26 infrastructure projects. These projects were selected under the Connecting Europe Facility.
Tesla was chosen for two Supercharger projects in Italy and Poland. The projects total €148,720,000. The projects will expand beyond the countries’ borders. They aim to replace old Superchargers and deploy new recharging stations in several countries.
Tesla’s new V4 Supercharger is designed to charge any EV. It also includes a longer charging cable for non-Tesla EVs. This is part of the “open-accessibility” mentioned in the project descriptions. The first V4 Supercharger in the UK includes contactless payment features.
